My mother has often said that antisemitism is alive and well. I have fought her and said that this is not a force that people need to fight anymore. Maybe I am wrong.
Lately, I have been seeing some very concerning things - as has anyone who has been keeping up with NYC and the recent attach at the Holocaust museum.
Check out these two op-ed pieces about how the rhetoric of hate is being fomented by the right wing "pundits". While they do not blame the violence on them, it does indeed link how the language they use can be twisted when in the hands of someone who feels disenfranchised (which many are right now).
We need to fight these forces with whatever we have. It is a moral imperative. This does not mean that everyone needs to be a screaming liberal. But is does mean that you should think about how arguments are presented and can be taken out to context. Communication is the response you get, and if you are getting violence linked to your perspective, you should think about your arguments, and recognize some culpability.

Resort Fashion: Stella McCartney
I love this collection by Stella McCartney - she uses Anouch Lapere as the model, who is insanely cute/hot/beautiful all at the same time.

Please Do Not Buy Fake Luxury Goods

Garance Dore
Besides being tacky, you are actually helping support criminal activity. Check out this article in Time about the ugly underbelly of that Coach with a "G" or the Louis Vuitton with a "LW". Bottom line, it is more stylish to look great in what you can afford, or have the real deal (which may require some saving in the piggy bank). Wearing fakes is never in. Period.
BTW, the above bag is the new Sophia Coppola collection for Louis Vuitton. It is gorgeous and $3,200 so I suppose it will never be mine. I shed a single tear.....
Unintended Consequences: Why Buy American Clauses Are Stupid
I agree that "buy American" pushes are ill advised. This op-ed explains very well how we can end up loosing more than we gain by using these populist sentiments to make policies.
Speaking of populist is the new "tzar" of executive pay. How about boards doing what they are supposed to do, which is to set executive pay for actual performance? We should reform corporate governance, not use government as a watchdog for things they should stay out of, but are only messing with because of political expediency.

Read It: The Economic Consequences Of Peace
I came across this very interesting blog post comparing current conditions to a historical cautionary tale about creating excess government debt.
This tale is "The Economic Consequences Of Peace" by John Maynard Keynes. This book is a must read for people who like economics and history. Do you want to see how strapping Germany with obscenely high debt as punishment actually forced them to become militaristic and led to the rise of the Nazi Party? All I can say is it is a compelling story of unintended consequences.
Just FYI - Keynes is otherwise known as the godfather of government spending used to bolster economic growth in time of economic decline - otherwise known as Keynesian Economics, so even if you don't agree with him, you can learn something new!

Word Of The Week: Ass Safari
I am finally back home and settled in after a whirlwind month of Seattle, Chicago and NYC - thanks to everyone who came out to see me after so long. I am so lucky to know so many fantastic people.
Anyhow, on to the word of the week. Anyone who knows my brother knows that he is very good at creating phrases that simply capture the moment. And in NYC, there is a very distinct time when women begin to look like spring and summer, and that includes small dresses, and bare legs.
Word: Ass Safari
Meaning: To meander around any urban area in search of the elusive (or not so elusive) attractive members of the gender of sexual preference and watch appreciatively.
Appropriate Usage: "Well, my mom and sister are in town today, but if they were not, today would be a perfect day to go on an ass safari. I love summer" - Joshua Cohen
Got to love it!
