Awesome Song Of The Day: Sia - Clap Your Hands

If this song does not make you want to dance, then you have no pulse. This song has a decidedly upbeat sound over the last album and rumor has it that it was produced by the guy from the Bird and Bee. Enjoy!

Gorillaz: Stylo Video

I am in Canada, and they have way better videos up here. For instance, check out the newest from Gorillaz. It is so great to see the Blur gang putting out a new album by the foursome that is so goofy. I also applaud Bruce Willis for being in this video with mixes animation and real life. Sadly, I can't embed the video, but you can check it out here:

Why Would Andrew Allow George To Steal The Girl: Wham's Last Christmas

This is the only Christmas song that I like, being Jewish and all. This video is a little slice of 80's heaven! Not sure why Andrew does not get mad that George beds his lady, but maybe share and share alike?

Peter Gabriel: A Tribute

With 20 years of Say Anything, I thought I would celebrate the musical genius that came with it.

However, unlike my other single times in my life, I am feel very optimistic that if the time comes, it will awesome, but if it doesn't that it ok too! Life is pretty groovy so I am having a great time. This morning I heard two songs on this theme so for all you single people out there - keep your head up!

Take A Listen: Getz Gilberto

At this very moment, I am sitting on my sun porch and I am listening to the best Sunday morning music humanly possible - Bossa Nova. The album is Getz Gilberto - which was released in 1964. It is light, hopeful, and you can literally hear the water lapping on the beach in Rio. To the right is a photo of the amazing tile work they have on the side walks there. Can you imagine anything more fun that having cool art right under your feet?

In case you need a refresher, here is the lovely Girl From Ipanema for your listening pleasure. I was her for one week not long ago - dark and lovely. I even have a Brazilian bikini to prove it...... My ass will never be the same....

Ode To Indiana: John Couger Mellencamp

I was in Indianapolis for a spectacularly fun wedding. Besides it being really flat, and my massive hangover today, I wanted to give everyone a John Cougar Mellencamp montage.

Happy Birthday: 25 Years Of Purple Rain

I begged my parents to let me see Purple Rain in 1984, it was rated R and I was 13. I got to go because my parents are awesome. While the movie is beyond terrible, this is a classic album and everyone should have it in their collection......

BTW, Erotic City is the best Prince song, sadly, you cannot get a copy online due to the illicit nature. It was the B-side on for Let's Go Crazy... Ahh, vinyl.....

WHEN DOVES CRY:

New Music: Cage The Elephant

I love this song - it has an amazing hook lyric.... Cause there ain't no rest for the wicked for sure. What about the angels?

David Bowie - Post 1

I was out the other evening, and ended up a bar that was playing a recent David Bowie show on DVD. All I can say is that man looks FINE these days for a man in his 60's.

But on the other hand, he is married to this - they have been married for 18 years, and Iman is in her 50's (yes, I hate her). That must keep him young. Anyhow, I love David Bowie and would like to reserve the right to multiple postings about him is I so choose. Let this be the first....

Then, a couple of days later, I heard China Girl on the radio. This song has an amazing video, was actually written with Iggy Pop (and released on his album originally in 1977), and if you listen to the words, is quite an allegory about east/west relations. Besides that, he seems to be totally smitten with the woman in the video, which is very fun to watch. Enjoy!

Whoa Black Betty

This is one of the most rockin' songs ever. And this is one darn entertaining video - got to love slightly slimy early 80's rednecks.

Do You Wanna Go: Heck Yeah Franz Ferdinand

Just saw the ridiculously tight Franz Ferdinand show. These guys know how to stay high energy, engage the crowd, and put on a great show. While sometimes I think a lot of their songs sound the same, the bottom line is the songs are just good and seriously get you going and make you want to sing along..... And they are totally cheeky, and you want to do is go have a beer with them....

Check out their must have album Franz Ferdinand , You Could Have It So Much and newest Tonight

Way Back Machine: INXS - Don't Change

Anyone who knew me in high school knows I was obsessed, as in crazy obsessed with Michael Hutchence of INXS. In my head, he was my way hot boyfriend and we had a globe trotting life between NY and Sydney. At the time he was dead sexy, and was often compared to Mick Jagger for his vitality and moves....

This afternoon I saw Adventureland, and the end of the movie they played Don't Change off the Shaboo Shabah album. The movie was very good, and the soundtrack even better with a mix of everything from Lou Reed to The Replacements.

As usual, I thought I would share. Next time I will tell the whole story of how I ended up with front row tickets to the Listen Like Thieves Tour. Enjoy.....

Needless to say, this song would be on any mixed tape I would ever make from that time. And damn, he was cute....

Give It Another Listen: Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams

The Euyrthmics were an enormous influence on the music of the 80's and their legacy continues as one of the most influential sounds of that time. I heard Sweet Dreams on the radio, turned it up to full blast and decided to share.

All I can say is Annie Lennox has another one of those truly extraordinary voices. Smooth and strong. This song came out in 1983 and is as good today and it was back then. Enjoy.....

Give It Another Listen: Travis

I went to the Travis show last night. The last time I saw them was in 1998, so very weird time blast to be in a tiny venue with a band that clearly has been around for years.

Interestingly, it was one of the best shows I have seen. Why? Are they the hippest, coolest band out there? No, they are not, but they did pave the way for Coldplay and Keane in a major way, and they did it a long time ago. They just make good songs with good melodies that make you want to sing along.

However, that is not why I liked the show, why I liked it was because they simply had fun and engaged the audience like no band I have ever seen. They talked and joked, and it felt like a personal conversation with a friend who knows some very catchy tunes. They have a lot of albums, so here are a few clips - you can judge for yourself.
